Jim Hutchins


Jim Hutchins earned his MA in Neurobiology from the University of California Berkeley and the PhD in Neuroscience from Baylor College of Medicine in 1985. He did postdoctoral work at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and taught in both the medical and dental programs at the University of Mississippi Medical Center for 16 years, earning multiple Teacher of the Year citations. In 2005 he moved to Utah where he now teaches at a local university. He has written over 40 papers and book chapters in his field, at all levels from high school textbooks to medical school textbooks. His research interest is in the chemical signals that help the nervous system function in adulthood and development, including chemical signaling pathways that use endocannibinoids (naturally occurring cannabis-like chemicals that are used as signals in the brain).
